Journey Within: The Adventure That Redefined a Life

Robson Costa's Journey

I was 18 when I got a call from my agent in Brazil that changed everything. "Congrats! You're going to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The contract is ready; we just need your parents to finalize the departure date."

I was at school and immediately went to a room with a globe. This was before social media, and connecting to the internet meant listening to a modem's screechy symphony. When I finally found Malaysia on the map, I knew an epic adventure was about to begin.

A few days later, my dad and I met with my agent to go over the details—work arrangements, where I’d live, and tips for overcoming the language barrier (since I didn't speak English at all). I was beyond excited, ready to leave the nest and dive into a journey that would shape my life in ways I couldn't imagine.

The cultural shocks, language hurdles, and challenges I faced pushed me light years ahead in terms of personal growth from the person I was. I often think about what my life would be like without that opportunity and the incredible support I received from so many people. But that is a story for a future article…

In January 2006, I set off into the unknown. That feeling of stepping into uncharted territory stayed with me for the next 20 years and still resonates today.

Traveling is a quest—whether you're flying, driving, on a train, boat, or even a canoe. Since ancient times, humans have thrived on seeking better conditions and new adventures.

This journey puts us in a state of wonder, sometimes even a meditative zone, where we calm our minds, make plans, or simply daydream. These moments are pure magic, always providing a positive boost.

For me, travel isn't just about discovering new places and cultures. It's an inner journey, evolving our thoughts and insights, often without even realizing it. It's a beautiful and transformative process that everyone should experience.

In future articles, I'll share countless stories and tips from my 20 years of nomadic living. But for now, take a moment to imagine where you would go if you could leave right now. Keep that spark alive!
